History

North Miami is an area with a colorful and interesting history. Miami has more than a century of history to its name, some of which is tumultuous. It began as a tiny settlement that has eventually grown into the progressive area that it is today. Before the Spanish settlers ever settled in the area, it was home to many Indian tribes, most notably the Tequesta Indians. From 1565 up to nearly 250 years later, the area was under Spanish control.
